l started riding in '07 when l took the MSF course, got my license, and picked up a leftover '06 SV650 (naked).
Since getting that l put on a custom valved Ohlins racing shock, redid the front forks with new springs and oil, lost about 70lbs (of myself), and put 12000 miles of Allegany Mountain twisties and 125mph straights on the sucker.
It is been fun, but I am looking to upgrade.

The things I am looking for are more torque (l like my low-end, but I will take it where l can get it), more speed (do not worry about ''where'' or ''when'' I will be able to use 150+, I'd just like to have that ability in the event l choose to use it), I'd prefer a full fairing, and l wanna stay under ~$12k US for a base unit.

A few bikes I am seriously considering right now include the Ducati 848, Aprilia RSV 1000 R, Triumph Daytona 675, Suzuki GSX-R Series (excluding Hayabusa), Honda Interceptor (VFR800), Honda CBR Series.

I've already decided that if l go naked l want a Triumph Speed Triple, l however would prefer something with a fairing after riding my naked SV at speed. This means I am basically looking for a supersport to put up against the Speed Triple and decide which of the two gets my attention the best.

l do mostly street riding, but like the option of track days. l mainly ride around looking for good turns to play around on, but also open it up on a straight when l have the chance. I'd like to be able to fill it up with gas and ride until it hits E without wanting to die.
I am a large/heavy guy. 5' 11 315. l ride solo, but because of my weight you should think of me as 2 people (it makes a big difference between if l get a 600 or 1000 inline 4).

Am l correct in assuming a 600 inline 4 might be a little less than what I am looking for? l want a very noticeable improvement in power over my 645cc v-twin.

Insurance is a non-issue (yeah l know, a CBR1000RR is like $3700 a year for me... I will worry about that later). l simply help steering myself in the right direction for what I am looking for, as from my perspective NOTHING seems to meet what l want. l need outside opinions.
No SV100 is please, l think the SV is are ugly as sin. Great bikes, but very ugly.

And yes, l can locate an 848 and RSV1000R for $12k or under.
*SV1000 is .
Jim!
Actually you're correct that I am not right in the head. I am an A-type personality with risk taking behavior. l was a volunteer firefighter for 4 years (2000-2004), and often do things l likely should not. The only reason I am still alive is a combination of luck and the ability to recognize a close call and dial it back just a hair (and believe me their were a few in the beginning). The largest unknown is how other drivers (ie: cagers) will react. l know the road, l know my tires, l know what l can and can not do. It is being on a busy highway where things get dangerous.
If you email me I'd be happy to provide pictures or any other proof you require.
l honestly thought l was a typical guy who likes to ride. Apparently l am not.
l like that idea, so thank you.

l would go with as much power as you can afford. Second choose the bike that you feel most comfortable sitting on as far as riding position. l do not think all the bikes you mentioned are going to vary that much as far as handling, so l would just focus on power.

Hmmmm,

You may not know this, but u r riding far beyond ur ability, if u have only been riding a year.

Seems a little incredible to me.

If u really r doing this, u r not thinking right.

Sorry, just do not believe this story.

A-type personality, huh? Do not use that as an excuse, u can do workarounds for that. l would recommend considering that the cages r bound to get you, they r unpredictable. l hope u find some control, as l did, before it is too late. l am fearless myself, & l have to conciously remember that. Just try to keep the shiny side up, that is for sure.

For what you want l would go with the CBR100RR. It is mean! A friend of mine did some mods to his which made it run even better if that is possible. You mentioned some other fine choices and you probably could not go wrong with any of them. I've just always felt Honda was a notch above the rest.

Because u want more torque & started on a V-Twin u will have to go bigger V twin, Triumph triple or 1200 + parallel 4. Most of these bikes will be less fun in the twisties.
Suggestions: Honda Blackbird, Triumph Daytona, Triumph Tiger, Aprilia RSV1000, Ducati 848, Yamaha TDM 900 etc etc.

Motorcycle USA website has some great comparos & tests on sports tourers & most other bikes.

If u think the SV1000S is ugly l am not sure u can be helped!

Listening to one with sports pipes may let u get over the visuals.

really, id get a R1 yamaha or if l wasnt hard for money, the new Vmax which has power out the butt. That would be my ONLY choices.

Hmmm, for what u r looking for.. l would get a Ducati or a Buell. The Duc is twin is going to give u a good deal of low end torque, & plenty of speed, while the Buell is going to give u about as good of handling without the steep price tag. The Buell 1125 is an excellent bike, but in ur budget l would look at the 1203 Firebolt, it is a torque MONSTER.

And BTW; l am a risk taker myself, l rode for about 1 & a half years before l got MY Ducati..and then l crashed..horribly. l was unscathed, by the grace of god & racing armor, but... l learned my lesson. Be careful.

The bikes you are thinking of are really too much bike for your experience. l think the 1000 version of your bike would be the best upgrade.and what kind of girl cares about what the bike looks like. It is all about performance.

From ur description, the VFR would definitely not do ya. Too much weight, too little horsepower, too little low end grunt. And worst of all, the stock suspension is on the soft side.

For an alternative to a supersport, u might consider the Triumph Sprint, instead. A hair over 400 pounts, has got 125 horses, & has more low end grunt than an inline 4 to get u moving in a hurry. And comfort for ur large frame. Unlike a supersport, it is designed to carry two people.. so u might find it easier to get the suspension tweaked.
