How do they get around? l mean, do they have cars they only use for the winter? Do they take the bus or cab? Or do they call some one else for a ride to place X? Do bike riders just stay indoors all winter long ?

l ask because l want a motorcycle and hate cars. So I am interested in what others do.
For the record chicagodude420, l did not say I've never ridden a bike. l am taking lessons but the guy whos teaching me was telling me that hes going to have to continue the lessons after winter cause he does not ride. So l have been on a bike.

l also own two cars... and that is why l can say l hate them. How else could l say l hate them If l did not own/drive one?

l never said l love bikes either, no clue where your getting that from.

Tehy have a vehicle to use for these times. If you live where there is snow you need a four wheel vehicle before a two wheel one.

Snow is fine to ride in although slower, ice is worth avoiding, but roads that r well used will generally get clear lines quickly the edges of these lines will be where the slippery slush lurks & at night where the ice forms. The alternative is to ride in the deeper settled snow for this reason an offroad styled bike (as opposed to a sports bike) is much better, more usable lowdown power with less need to rev the engine, good long travel soft suspension, cheaper if u should drop it.

The worst thing about riding in the snow is the salt spread on the road to clear it – u can watch ur shiny pride & joy being eaten by corrosion for that reason it is worth getting a cheap winter hack that u can allow to deteriorate – a quick spray after a ride to clear off the salt & a coating of Waxoyl at the beginning of the season will help. You will also use more rear brake than u would in dry clear weather.

whats with the thumbs down? You can change to a paddle tire and a 1960 is tabogon installed where the front tire goes.Good for mud drags too!!!! Also I've just seen on ebay ''everything else'' a snow bike that sells a front tire as an option PRETTY COOL!!!!!!! but only the 90cc.

They have cars. There are rainy days and cold days so it would be impractical to only have a motorcycle for your only transportation. It is dangerous to Drive a car on slick roads. It would be suicide to ride a motorcycle.

l use my motorcycle through all weather bar snow, if it has snowed and cleared then l would still use my bike. Have waterproof is for rain and thermals for cold weather.

For days when l can not use the bike, l have a car and so do family members, friends and work colleagues if l can not use my car either. l always use public transport as a last resort.

get a car. especially if you do not already ride.

put warmer kit on & thick socks also winter gloves, then start the bike & off we go, work /rides/& rallies, a bikes for life not just summer

From December 1st to February 28th my bike definitely parked. l have a 9-3 insurance policy. For three months my bikes r only covered for fire & theft. l do not ride in the snow period. Simply an accident waiting to happen. Look how many people that have accidents when they drive a car in the winter.
l would say 99% of motorcyclist park their bikes for the winter. Heck a lot of riders park their machine when the temps dip below 50 degrees F. l will ride until the snow falls or December 1st.
Sorry, unless u live in area in the very southern portions of our country or have access to great public transportation, owning a car is a fact of life.

Motor bikes r my first love, it was instantaneous the first time l felt the engine begin to pull instead of me having to pedal to make it move. Up to that point pre WW2 l had ridden a pedal bike to work 9 miles to work & back, in all weathers, rain, snow, ice, slush, sometimes in thick fog with a crocodile of cars following us because we could see better than the cars. Same routine with the motor bikes, all weathers, my first one was after WW2 & tyres have improved safety to an untold amount since then, if u r adamant u r entering a new world, u need the gear to match the weather year round, although u do not have to suffer, there r always buses & trains for the not so dedicated. To the hard-rider there is no off season.

How do u know u want a bike if you've never ridden one? Why do u hate cars? l bought a 94 Intruder with only 1200 miles on it, u know why, because alot of people have this image of bikes go buy one & then realize they do not like it. l love it but maybe u should try riding a bike before u swear off cars & talk about how much u love bikes, l think u love the image of a bike. In the winter if ur a hardcore rider u can ride when its cold but no snow on the ground but most people put their bikes away in the winter. Even if u do want to ride u will beat up ur bike in the cold & with the salt & stuff.

buy a snowmobile

l used to ride my bike all year round - Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.
l did not have a car at the time - my bike was my only transportation.
It is fun riding through snow storms with only 50ft of visibility - if you can stand the cold.
