If it cannot do a u-turn on the main road, how do you get it around some mini-roundabouts?

you will have to do it on the instructors bike then.
But what size road are you testing it on ?
what size road do you think the examiner will test you on ?

had same problem with a honda ca125 ''rebel'' factory custom, test centre will take you to a wider part of the road, or use their bike.! at a differant center '' just 4 cbts '' good luck.

practice lots, do not use clutch alone, keep foot on back brake and keep power on a bit but keeping speed down with brake, once you've done lifesaver and moved away, get it to full lock as soon as you can, lean into the bend a little to decrease circle and get it done, keep feet on pegs or you fail. Like l said, practice lots, i've done test turns on cb500, ninja 600 and st1100 pan european, it can be done on yours

Well, you dont have a problem do you. Because firstly, you have to dismount and walk the bike around for the turn in the road. Then you have to ride the turn in the road after.
So if it wont turn in the width of the road, the instructor will clearly see so when you cant walk it round. If you can walk it, you can ride it period.

If by ''not enough lock'' u r refering to the turning radius of the bike then what that maximum turning radius is tated by the man ufacturer, that equates to the tightest turn u can possibly make on that bike. Most of us r not capable of even meeting that turning radius number while making turns. It is what the bike can do at its' stated limits.Turn the wheel all the way to the left & then walk in a circle...Half the diameter of that circle will refelct the minimum turning radius of the bike..But not what yo can do in the real world.. l had the same problem with my HD when l took the test. l failed the first time at the cones & l explained to the officer that the bike was too large to make these tight turns... l asked h im to seperate the cones further apart but he stated that he could not but based on how l accomplished the remainder of the obstacles he granted me a license.Reason beng was because being an experienced officer in giving these test he quickly saw that l was experienced in handling a motocycle & that it truly was a situation where upon the bike was beyond its' limits. These guys know what to look for & they can tell right off the start as to whether or not u can handle the bike. They do not need to actully have u perfor the test in its' entirety ( even though they must) before they know as to whether or not u can ride a bike)
Go to the testing facility/go through the course/ & if u truly r in control of ur bike u will pass & the officer will see that the deductions come form the limiting factor of teh bike & not the rider is abilities

Try leaning the bike over more. Practice in a parking lot with your foot down, to judge what speed you need to go, to keep from falling over. To help keep your balance, lean the bike over and sit vertical to the ground (almost to the point where you will be sitting on the corner edge of the seat). While pushing the handlebars further to the ground, at the same time you're pushing yourself up.
By leaning the bike over, it will make a sharper turn.

Ask him if you're allowed to do it on one wheel. Seriously, if the bike can not do a U-turn, then it can not do a U-turn. Some of the Ducati track-oriented bikes can not do a U-turn, either. So just show him the problem & see what he says. It is not really up to him, personally, whether or not this constitutes a fail. It will be dictated by local law. Some states will make allowances, & some will screw u over (i.e. give u alternatives that cost u time & money for nothing.)

l am sure the testers will have encountered bikes with limited lock before, and so must have a solution to this - but check with them first as they are the ultimate authority.
Another thing to check first is that the lock is not being restricted by a trapped cable or similar. I've seen this on bikes where there have been maintenance problems.

Your bike will u-turn. It will need a combination of full lock on the bars & quite a bit of lean, but u will be going too slow to lean like in a fast turn. The bike has to lean to reduce the turning circle, but u will have to stay upright or even lean out of the turn to keep balance & stop the bike tipping in. It feels odd at first, but any bike can be made to turn very tight bends on full lock. Find an empty car park & try it, just keep getting the circle tighter until u r hard on the lock stops. If u need brakes, use rear only. Be ready to put ur inside foot down very quickly if needed. Good luck, once you've done it once u will wonder what all the fuss was about.

My benelli needs a dual carriageway to do a u-turn!. Dont worry mate l have the answer to ur question tried & tested by myself & it works much to the dismay of ur driving examiner. If u listen to the instruction that u r given by the examiner he shall tell u to make a turn in the road to make ur vehicle face the opposite direction, They do not instruct u to drive it! switch off the bike & get off & push it making sure u check it is safe to do so & because u r not driving it u no longer have to adhere to the rules of driving, if u bump up the kerb so what u were pushing it! u can argue the fact of inabillity of bike to turn in such a small circle after the fact. l did exactly that & examiner was less than pleased but l argued that l carried out his instructions fully & he couldnt do a thing, this is a sure fire way to piss him/her off & you'd best be on ur guard after that but it does work & completely within the rules. My mate was an examiner & it was him that told me this

Assuming you are in UK, on your test you will be asked to push the bike around before riding it. If the bike is incapable of being turned in the space available the examiner will move to a wider road. BTW, if you are not getting some proper training your chances of passing the test are greatly reduced, as you will be unaware what will be required.
