I've never ridden but I am looking to get into it next spring/summer. l want a sportbike. I've heard people argue back and forth on whether it is better to start with a small bike like a 250 Ninja and then move up to the 600's, and I'd like to get some more opinions.

First off, I am 6' 3'' and weigh 185 so I am afraid if l get a smaller bike my legs might get cramped. I've also heard people say that R6 is have too much power for a beginner, but l think l could control it. I am definitely NOT the type of person who would try to drive aggressively/do wheelies/drop the clutch until l knew my limits. I'd probably be afraid to take it over 5000 rpms till at least a few months into owning a bike. l would take things slow and not try to show off or be stupid. And l definitely will take a safety course and all that good stuff. So honestly, would a 600 cc bike be a good starter? The R6 is sooo sweet..

l dont ride but my boyfriend does and he says l would be perfect for a 250 as a beginner and thats because of my height and weight. but hes taller and says the 250 was too small for him and he started with the 600. so try the 600

My starter bike was a 650 Yamaha V-Star (Cruiser style bike). l am 5'2''.. l am now on a 1100 honda shadow.so here is the thing.you would look ridiculous on a 250 you would be cramped and uncomfortable.the issue with power.you control the throttle.DUH! Get what fits you..

a 600 or 650 is a great starter bike, l had a 650 for my first ever bike, & l wish l would've got a 1000 or bigger. Its really easy, ive been riding for years & never got the motorcycle endorsement, only people ive seen getting pulled over on bikes r people doing stupid stuff. once u start riding l think by the end of the first week of on the road, u will be comfortable enough. for people saying a bike has too much power for beginer all the power is in ur wrist. But if u do plan on taking the test & getting endorsed, would suggest a smaller bike, u can make them do pretty much anything vs a big bike.

600 should b fine. an r6 can build up more aggresion than u think. As long as you do not get agead of ur self you should b ok, especially considering ur heigh and weight.

My starter bike was a 175cc dirt bike. More than enough power. If money is not an issue l would recommend learning on a smaller bike and then upgrading.

yes , it is going to happen. l am 5-7 and l feel cramped on the 250ninja. So you Would have to go with the 600. do not worry about the power, you have the weight and the height to control it.

Go to Motorcycle Safety Foundation course (MSF) they provide bikes for training, and isnt it weird that there all 250cc or less ? all over the USA.but why worry right, what do they know ?
Buy a USED 250cc Ninja, AFTER the MSF course. Then in a year or so when you have a few thousand miles under your belt, sell it and move up to a new bike of your choice.

Take your MSF and yes you can learn on a 600 if you take the time to learn. Do not go out and try carve canyons and do wheelies and stunts . Learn how to feel confident and safe on your bike. Leave the Ninja for the people willing to spend all of that money on a little bike.
