Here is a lil bit about me. l have been racing motocross for 10 years and l am 19. l was thinking about getting an R1 but was just trying to get someone eleses imput on it. l an a pritty quick learner and think that l could catch onto the power of the bike pritty quick.

Starting on an R1 = be sure to put 'organ donor' on ur license.

It is powerful, & the challenge is not being able to handle the bike (like motocross). The challenge is knowing what traffic situations u can & cannot use the power in.

We talk about the '3 degrees of separation' from pain & disfigurement:
1) riding strategy
2) bike control
3) protective gear

You probably have 2 & 3 down like a pro. Stick with a smaller bike & take a safety course until u have some experience, because 1 will keep u out of trouble in the first place!

no it is not. even people that have been riding for years say against it, purely cause of gearing. l love my yamaha (R6) and corner carving is great on it. You will be keeping it in first gear for the whole canyon run.

yeah its what l started on do not get above a 600 in size and do not push the limits on it until you have ridden for at least 6 months and then do not push hard always stay under what you think you can do. a street bike is completely different than a dirt bike sure the clutch is basically the same but the balance how it turns accelerates its all different so just take it slow and you will have a blast

given ur experience, if u r good at racing motocross & you're mature for ur age, u might not kill yourself on it. but really, there is no reason for anyone to need an r1 on the street. they're uncomfortable & hard to ride. & u wo not be able to insure it unless u have a good size trust fund.

look into some supermoto bikes, more fun than any supersport on the street, & you'd naturally have the handling & power characteristics mastered from ur motocross experience. & they're insured as a dual sport single so very cheap

Hell NOOO ... u r 19 ..

R1 is no where considered to be a starter bike .

its not made for starters .. u might be a quick learner . but the bike is much much much quicker than u . u should be taming a bike . but a R1 will tame u . so wait for some time . get good practice on the roads on bit smaller machines . there r loads of them in the market to give u good hands on experience . then switch to R1 .. u will then enjoy it the most. rather than trying to practice on a R1 .. u will look like a clown if u learn on R1..

and 19 l am sure the amount u pay for the insurance on R1 can buy u a smaller bike .

you might be good enough to take a R1 & learn on the road now . but the road users r not that good enough for someone learning on R1 on roads

so .. finally for the safety of u & other road users ..boy .. think well & decide . ride safe . all the best .
