Where would I find this Fuel/Gas Gauge for my Honda Shadow motorcycle

fuel/ gas gauge.. some bikes have them. but most have a reserve tank . so when you run out you can switch over to reserve to get you to the gas station to fill up. just remember to switch the reserve off when you fill up.. or next time you will be pushing the bike..

Honda Shadow does not have a fuel gauge. Next time you fill up, reset the tripometer to zero, then remember what it is at when you need your next fill up. After you fill it again, reset it back to zero, and the number of miles to your magic number is the number of miles to empty. And make sure you follow the advice of the previous guy who talked about the reserve tank.

open the fuel cap, look down in there, slosh it around alittle bit..

make sure u turn the pet cock the right way, so when u run out, u have reserve..if u turn it the wrong way, ure gonna just run thru reserve n have nuttin left..

id bet u get 50+ mpg on a shadow, look up what the tank holds, X50, & thats gonna be a guestimate of what u can run before u need to fill up.

so if u hold 3 gallons (probably not quite that much) youll get 150 to a tank, so fill up every 120 or so.

Your fuel gauge is ur trip odometer. Reset it each time u fill up & u will have an accurate indication of how much further u can travel.

Know how much gas ur tank holds. If u have a reserve tank (which ur honda shadow does) know how much it holds as well (usually a few litres / 1 gallon). It would suck having to walk 10km to the next gas station & another 10km back with a jerry can because u thought ur reserve held more gas than it does.

Most bikes do not have a fuel gauge because the mileage on a bike is relatively consistent so most riders do not have a high need for it.

A fuel gauge & it is measuring components means more weight, space, electronics, etc - & on a bike, less is usually more.

Also, gas in a motorcycle gas tank sloshes around a lot due to the bike leaning during turns, hitting bumps, etc. Readings on a gas gauge would be grossly inaccurate at times - anyone who has driven a boat with a fuel gauge on rough waters can easily relate to this.

If u r dead-set on having a gas gauge on a bike that does not have one factory installed - u can have one custom installed. It will cost u $100-$400 to install it. This involves purchasing a fuel sender unit ($30) & installing it inside the tank. A fuel gauge ($25) is wired to the sender. This process requires drilling a hole into the gas tank to connect the wire & then sealing the hole completely ($???).

An alternative to a simple custom gas gauge is to use an electronic computer that can tell u ur estimated gas supply, mileage, lap timer, clock, etc. Unlike a gas gauge - if u decide u do not like it u can easily remove it from ur bike.
