Thanks for reading,
I am about to pick up a new (new to me) bike this weekend. The bike is heavily modded both cosmetic and performance. My question is, do you think 20,000 miles is a lot for this type of bike and year? The seller has provided all oil change and service reports and keeps really (REALLY) good care of the bike.Another concern is how hard the bike may have been ridden. With the kinds of mods this guy has added you can tell he likes get somewhere as quick as possible. Thanks again. Here are the added mods: Puig dark Smoke Windscreen, Ermax Undertail, Pro-Bolt Blue Bolt Kit, Flashalert Intergrator and Flasher, Custom Dynamics LEDs(front signals), Libertek Flasher Relay, Holeshot Fork Brace, Galfer SS Brake Lines, Pazzo Racing Blue Shorty Levers, LMP Radiator Shrouds w/ Lights, Superdials Custom Gauge Faces, Custom Countershaft Sprocket Cvr, Circuit One Case Covers, Custom Master Cylinder Cover, Circuit One Frame Sliders, Custom Frame Inserts, Yamaha Carbon Fiber Air Box Covers, New Muzzy Slip-on, Yamaha Carbon Fiber Frame Inserts, Ti Bars w/ MS Bar-ends Yamaha Lower Cowl, Yamaha Tank Bra, Holeshot Jet Kit (dyno’d at 131hp). Tank Slapper, Corbin Seat, Speedohealer, Clear Alternatives LED Taillights, 15t CS Sprocket, Greggs Custom Flushmounts, R1 Shift Arm, Hyperpro Fork and Coil Springs, Yamaha Hugger, Holeshot AIS Removal.

sounds like it is well taken care of, and 20K miles for a 6 year old cycle is less than 4K per year.

20k for yamaha is not much, but the question is how hard was he riding it? If the mods are mainly to get extra power than he might have been racing it. in which case you should see that as warning sign.

If the bike has been properly maintained, oil changes & all that, then 20,000 miles is barely just broken in. Any modern Japanese bike will go 100,000 miles if properly cared for, & ESPECIALLY a water-cooled bike, which the FZ1 is.
The only thing I'd worry about is that with all the mods the guy might really have ridden it hard. And u just have to make a judgement from talking to the guy. If he is always talking about how fast it is, how high it revs, he is probably been riding it hard. Probably really wanted an R1. 8^)
Other than that, the FZ1 is a great bike & u will enjoy it a lot. Congrats!

Most of the mods on that bike are cosmetic. l am a harley rider. If someone ''mods'' the engine, crank, pistons, jugs, heads, nitrous, etc. then l would worry.
Make sure the guy did not spank it too hard and kept fresh fluids in it and you should be fine.

Its not a lot of mileage on a relative scale but at 24K there is a valve check/adj. l have not done one on a FZ but l have on many others and it is a more complicated job usually done by a dealership. Check rates for the job its not cheap. Otherwise 20K is still a baby.

No that will run forever. Most of those mods are cosmetic. l bought an 02 last year with about 22k on it, still runs like a top. Pretty funny mine has most of those mods or similar ones with different brand items.
