What year did Harley Davidson put the twin 88 cubic inch 1450 cc engine on motorcycles

l am a Harley Davidson know nothing about. l can not answer Harley questions. l wish l could. It is like a part is missing in my life. Yet,it is a motorcycle. l must own one.

Yep it was 1999.

The 88 cube engine came first on the 1999 bikes. l know because l deliberately waited till the second year to buy my FXDWG, worried about problems with the new engine.
Funny, they had kits to make that into 96 cubes soon after l bought mine & now the motor company is building 96 cube engines & selling 110inch kits!

Mine has been totally reliable & trouble free. l had it in the dealer once for warranty work on the front fork bearings. That is all in 8 years & 65,000 miles.
My engine is stock except for the air filter housing which has a few extra holes in the back to let in more air. It gets almost 50mpg if l ride easy at 55mph & only 35mpg if l push hard on the interstate at 75mph.
At dealer demo day l test rode a 96 cube roadglide that had some head work done & screaming eagle cams. It was brutally powerful compared to mine, l could not believe the difference. But, the general manager who owned it told me his gas mileage was about 39mpg at 55mph & a mere 30 on the interstate so it really took a lot more fuel to create that power.

First year of the TwinCam 88 was in 1999, but only available in the Rubber mounted chassis, like the ElectraGlides (ie. dressers) & in the Dyna Chassis (ie. superglide, lowrider, wideglide). The Softails' did not get the 88ci engine until 2000, Harley did not have the TC88B (internally Balanced) engine ready yet. Originally, there was a big engine kit, but as stated earlier as a 96ci upgrade, that is wrong, it was a 95ci kit, basically larger pistons & jugs on the stock lower end. Today the Twin Cam is up to 96 ci across the board, with upgrades to 103ci & 110ci (which is stock in the Screaming Eagle) CVO motorcycles. hope that helps you.

60hp from a 1500cc engine. The engineers at harley are geniuses at getting so much noise out of a gallon of gas while keeping that nasty horsepower as low as possible. It is a wonder such a heavy bike even moves with so little horsepower. Must be low gearing.
