I am looking into buying a scooter since l just moved to San Diego. l work 10 miles away and would not have to take the highway, l was curious if anyone knew the engine cc requirements or how fast they generally go for road use. Thanks so much!

l believe you have to have a 150cc engine or greater to be on the freeway. l do not know how small it can be to be street legal though. I'd bet that if you bought one of those smaller Vespa size scooters or comparable that you'd be fine.

Look at the Kymco line they have a couple of sizes that will fill you r needs. l would not go smaller than 125 cc.if you never go on highway. They are priced so the average person can afford them and very reliable

l do not do scooters, but if l did for ten miles on 25-30mph roads, l would get a 50cc; on 35-45mph, a 125cc; and on 50-55mph, a 150cc. But for 60-65mph roads l would (and did) get a motorcycle so as to not violate California Vehicle Code section 22400, subdivision (a). l doubt l would ever receive a ticket for this, but fear l would be run over.
