I am a slender female rider and when it is below 70 degrees l get cold on my bike. l wanna ride further into the fall this year and have some long road trips planned, but definitely need warmer gear. I've been reading about the electric jackets from Aerostitch. Has anyone tried one of these? Are they safe it it rains? Any thoughts? Thank you!

First you need a bike with a large enough capacity charging system to support these things. Many bikes do not have the capacity, check with your dealer. Then you will need to have wiring added for these.
Aerostitch is not bad equipment, but the Gerbings is far superior in quality.

there are a few brands of eletric jackets.. and they all work great im sure some are better than others.. as for rain you need rain gear. and dont forget heated gloves.. maybe the best kind or from what a few other have told me anyways is

my top mechanic uses one you can also get heated grips , me l live in florida no real need except for our two weeks of winter best is to layer clothing

I've had an electric vest for 20+ years & it works great. As mentioned, talk to ur dealer. He should be able to tell u how powerful ur alternator is & give an approximate idea of how many watts surplus u have. Use that figure when selecting a heated garment.

My first choice would be a vest rather than gloves or grips. The reason is simple. When u start getting cold, ur body reduces blood flow to ur extremities & redirects that blood to ur torso. Your body does this to keep ur core temperature up so ur internal organs continue to function correctly. That is why ur fingers & toes get cold first. If u keep ur torso warm, ur body can direct blood flow back to ur extremities.

One January l was heading to Florida from Missouri with my then new vest. It was 25 degrees & after 40-50 miles my fingers started getting cold. Curious as to how the vest was going to perform, l plugged it in, l felt the heat on my chest & within mere minutes my fingers were no longer cold.

l might be wrong, but l figure heated grips r going to waste a lot of the heat produced sticking out there in the cold wind. With a sweater or hooded sweatshirt underneath the electric vest & a good leather or windproof jacket over it, the heat produced is going to have a hard time escaping. If u have limited alternator capacity, u certainly need the most effecient method of conserving the heat produced.

While l do not have experience with the fine products from Aerostitch, l have experience with electric gear.
l ride an 1800 Goldwing so l have lots of electric power for a complete set of riding gear.
l use the products from Gerbing.
l use the jacket liner, Union Ridge pants, & the classic gloves.
l chose the jacket liner so it would fit under any jacket l own. On long road trips l wear a mesh Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket. When the temps drop l wear the jacket liner under the jacket. For more wind protection l wear my rain jacket over the mesh Joe Rocket. This setup has allowed me to be comfortable from 95 degrees to 40 degrees.
Comfort is everything when it comes to enjoyable motorcycle riding.
Electric gear has extended my riding season here in the Midwest by a couple of months.
