l have an 05 zx636. l changed to a 525 14 tooth front sprocket and a 54 tooth rear sprocket. but now seems like its riding really hard and there is this really loud whining noise when l pull in the clutch. l know my rpm will be running after changing all this but this doesnt seem right

l remember there being a rule about putting on a new chain when you change the rear sprocket.

First possibility is chain tension but you probably know how to get that right.

Second is that chains develop wear grooves that would match your old sprocket profile. Your new sprocket does not have matched wear grooves so it will be noisy. You may have to spring for a new chain, although someone with more mechanical knowledge may have a clever solution.

Did you use the correct size sprocket? 525 or 530 chain?

First off, chains do not stretch. Rather, the pins wear allowing the links to move farther apart slightly, changing the pitch. As a result, instead of the rollers riding at the bottom of the tooth, they ride up towards the tip. The more worn the chain, the farther up they ride, wearing the teeth.

Second, install a new chain. Make sure u have the sprockets aligned correctly (in line with each other). If the rear sprocket is cocked, the chain is going to slide off the tip of the teeth, causing wear & noise. Also make sure the tension is at manufacturers specs.

When u say riding really hard, do u mean as in the suspension seems stiff? If so, u have the chain too tight or either one or both sprockets r slightly off center causing the chain to be loose at one point & too tight at another. If the sprockets r off center, it is likely a manufacturing defect.

Also know that the higher the chain pitch, the noiser they r going to be. In other words, if ur bike came with a 60 pitch chain (teeth 3/4 inch apart), a 50 pitch like yours (teeth 5/8 inch apart) should run quieter. Also know that regardless of the pitch, any sprocket with less than 15 teeth is going to wear the chain faster than one with over 15 teeth. The smaller sprocket causes the links to make a sharper curve, wearing the pins faster.

Lastly, is ur chain a 525? A 525 sprocket will be slightly narrower than a 530 & if ur chain is 530, it will let the chain slide side to side slightly.
