l am thinking of purchasing locally a used 1970 is 2 stroke enduro motorcycle. just curious to know if the 2 stroke motorcycles that are sold in your local area on craigslist.org are they like grandfathered in, when it comes to the California 2-stroke ban law? l still occasionally see two stroke being sold on craigslist and some of the motorcycles are street legal enduros from like the 70's. Now despite that 2 stroke ban law can you still use the two stroke street legal enduros. lheard the DMV would still register if l pay the fees the DMV demands from me? So does that mean l can still buy locally and successfully register a street legal 1970 is low mileage 2 stroke enduro motorcycle like the Kawasaki 175cc f7 enduro street legal 2 stroke engine? And if l get it register would the cops give me a hard time for driving a two stroke on public streets or as long as the DMV accepts my fees and register the 2 stroke than l should not have a problem? Can somebody help me out with this issue? l will greatly appreciate you honest answer?

The ban is not retroactive, it applies to the sale of new vehicles only.

l would ask the seller (if bike is currently registered in CA) or the DMV - they should be able to tell you.

Two strokes were legal back then, so still are, If you're buying one of those recent Japanese Gray market bikes no. Yamaha sold their last air cooled 2 stroke in 79 (rd400), they sold rz350 is in 84/85 that had catalytic converters in the pipes, since then no legal two strokes over 50cc pass emissions in the US.
