Why haven't asian motorcycle companies been able to keep up with Harley Davidson's clearly superior product

as an avid harley rider, & a devout harley person, l gotta ask, r ya nuts?

Everyone in the world knows the asians make a better product. However, when it comes to harley's, it is not about better.

Many more harley riders work on their own bikes. Deep stuff, cam changes upgrades, not just adding fluff. It is the Harley experience, not product the asians can not keep up with.

Harley riding is old school motorcycling, will it break down? will u be able to fix it on the road & be a real biker, or, will u reach for ur cell phone like a RUB.

Japanese bikes r also vastly less expensive for most models, & r a great entry point into motorcycling.

Japanese make a better product, their product just has no soul like a harley does.

Because Harley Davidson was created by the almighty!

be specific. d u mean asian as in chinese/malaya/korea. or japanese. as in honda kawasaki yamaha & suzuki.


jap bikes r superior to harleys, they dont break down, the cruise comfortably at 125mph. & more importantly they STOP when u want them to, & they handle.. at 180mph, which is something NO harley ever managed.

all harley managed to do was generate badge engineering, & persuade old men, reliving their mispent youth that harleys were cool. they aint cool, they're a product of desperation over style. l remember when harley became harley davidson EMF, & made cagivas. & they almost went bankrupt.

my mates have harleys, they chug around at 70 or 80, they darent go faster, coz itll either break down, or blow up, & its like stopping the titanic with a bit of string on a rock.

now m not saying my BMW is better, but in the 24years ive owned it, its never broken, & apart from servicing it, its never ever let me down or cost me money. & no one wants to steal it the moment my bcak is turned.

Surely, u jest! They surpassed Harley-Davidson on the technical front back in the Seventies.
That said; just because ur r technologically superior does not mean that u r superior in every way. Japanese bikes r very nice to ride & they have a lot of nice gadgets but they r cookie cutter bikes. They all look the same & for the most part they all ride on the same formula suspensions. And l disagree with their policy of selling 'race ready' bikes to people who r eminently unqualified to ride them. The Japanese have blatantly tried to copy the Harley design but they have fallen short. True aficionados do not want a bike that looks like a Harley. They want the real thing.

Harley-Davidson does business a little bit differently. They have taken a proven design & worked it to meet the requirement of today is owners. Most harley owners do not pretend to be anything other than motorcycle lovers. They tend to be more knowledgeable about their bikes & do not mind spending a little extra to buy a quality product. Harley has met this criteria by maintaining their high manufacturing standards without copying other manufacturers designs. And if that means buying a few superior offshore parts to make the bike better, Harley owners can live with that. Anything that makes their bike better is welcomed.

Oh, man well they obviously do not have enough chrome, & too many DOHICKEYS on them. KEEP EM SIMPLE THATS WHAT MAH GRANDFATHER TOLD ME!!

Secondary fuel injectors? Fly by wire? Chip controlled variable intake stacks? Traction control? SCREW THAT l WANNA SOMTIN SLOW AND SIMPLE; A HAAAAAALEY. *(boston accent)

* Im a sportbike guy, & as far as working on one goes: My cousin & l have rebuilt his CBR600F3 59,000 miles, runs like a top up to 15KRPM all day still. Fork seals, tire removal, clutch plates w/e u name it it is been done.

Harleys r way more simple to work on, duh, they're a V-Twin.you got two less cylinders to work on.

They've been doing an OK job keeping up. Anyone who has owned a japanese bike from the 70 is and 80 is can tell you that they were prone to break downs and they would leak a little oil. But they followed Harley is lead and improved their product.
