a trike ( GS 850 based ) . it does not need sva test because it retains original frame engine forks etc as on DVLA website . spoke to DVLA on phone and l am fed up of being passed around and not getting a straight answer . the axle is a bolt on affair so could be turned back to a bike quite easily hence no need for sva test.l have donor bike V5 and it is registered to me. dont direct me to other web sites ( been there ) l need someone who knows through personal experience how l go about it . if you dont know dont answer . thanks.

thanks brillo, but all garages l know require log book for the vehicle stated - not a conversion.so no MOT. did you get one with no book ?

Would it help if you spoke to your local police station, after all they would be the people prosecuting you if you had not registered it and should have.

l have a Honda Valkyrae, converted to trike with a bolt on ford axle. l sent my log book to DVLC, and they wrote to say my vehicle has changed it is identity, and l could not have my log book back, l have to get it Re registered as a trike, but it must have an MOT and insurance, before l take it to the centre. Also l have to get it weighed on a weighbridge, and get a ticket, for their records. It is not easy, but l hope this information throws some light on the situation.

Based on looking at the V5 for my trike, u will need to fill in Section 7 - Changes to Current Vehicle. Wheelpan gets changed to 3-Wheel & Body Type gets changed to Tricycle. The VIN/Chassis should not change. You dont need to worry about the weight etc. You will get the V5 & a new tax disc back from the DVLA based on a tricycle & not a bike. You will then need to get the MOT sorted. You will need to get a weight ticket from a public weighbridge & then get a Class 3 MOT. Check on the trike web site such as uktriker for the weight classifications but l think the Class 3 covers 250kg to 440kg. Make sure u have a handbrake & a working set of hazard flashers otherwise it wont pass the MOT. The place l used for mine was a company called C.M.A. Chester.
If u have the insurance u will need to book the trike in for an MOT so that u r covered if u get stopped on the way.

Do not bother with the D.V.L.A. They can not tell you what you need to know.

Contact your local V.O.S.A. (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) office instead. They are the guys who actually do the testing on all new builds, imports and modifications, whether they are bikes, trikes, cars or trucks.

They will be able to tell you exactly what needs to be done.

These people do this for a living & normally r happy to help & maybe even do it for u with some cost of course. l have spoken in some length to HGB & Colin Appleyard & both were very helpful. At the time l was contemplating buying from them. Maybe that helped

My build will be on a 1500 Wing with a California Sidecars Trike conversion over the winter for use next summer.
