l wanted to know what would be better for trail riding and just riding around. a 125 rm or crf250r

get the crf, 4 strokes are less maintenance and all around easier to deal with. they also generate just as much as the 2 strokes

the 125 rm will give you all the power you can handle and is much more useable than the cr250 red rocket which is a beast

go for the rm 100% allthough there will be more maintenance this bike is much easier to ride. its better to be at one with a bike than to be fighting it into those corners.A lot of people who have bought big, fast, powerful enduro machinery to go trail riding have probably chosen the wrong bikes. definately the 125 rm. l ride 125, 150, 200 cc bikes every week and my fave is my wr 125. good luck and you just watch those bigger clumsier 250;s fall by the way. :)

neither one is a good trail bike in stock form, especially for a beginner.

l am assuming this is ur first bike, or at least first full size bike. I'd recommend:

honda xr250 - more people have learned on xr is than any other bike, xr is & cockroaches would be the only thing left in a nuclear holocaust

yamaha ttr250 - basically an xr250 clone
suzuki drz250 - ditto

kdx200r - easiest to ride 2 stroke ever, stone reliable & easy to work on

jfmn24 and art are way off base here. Any 125 motocross bike makes a terrible trail and playing around bike. The CRF250R is a far superior bike that has a much more usable power delivery. l love 250F machines for woods riding and I've been through 25 dirt bikes of all sizes and makes. l would suggest considering the CRF250X instead of the R for your needs though, but the R will work fine in the woods. l trail ride mine all of the time.

l would not purchase either of these unless you intend to race or ride track. If you want a bike that can take a bit of jumping and has all the niceties on it that a mx bike has but is basically set up more for trail then look at the crf250x.
2 strokes do not make good trail bikes as the power is too uneven.
