We purchased motorcycle from a guy on E-Bay 3 yrs ago now we wanted to sell it and the title he gave us is wrong. We just found out that the Title he gave us is not matching the VIN on the motorcycle we purchased from him. There is no way to find out where he lives or his phone #. The E-Bay does not keep tracking for more then 9 month on transactions. Please help us if someone knows what steps we should take in order to get the correct Title for the motorcycle we have. We purchased motorcycle from a guy on E-Bay 3 yrs ago, he gave Title and we did not check it at the moment we picked up the motorcycle. Now we wanted to sell it. The more important is that we have Title registered on our name but with wrong VIN deferent then on the motorcycle. We don’t know if this is a mistake of sellers or Secretary of State.
Please help us. If someone knows what steps we should take in order to get the correct Title for the motorcycle we have.

You need to apply for a new title for the motorcycle at the DMV. You can probably even find the form online for your state.

First, u need to call the DMV & have them tell u the title status on the VIN that is on ur motorcycle. There is a very big chance the motorcycle that u purchased was stolen. It is also possible that the bike was wrecked & put back together with a frame from a different motorcycle & the seller did not update the title.The DMV should be able to tell u the titles status & may even be able to tell u who had the bike titled before you. If the bike turns out to not be stolen, the DMV may allow u to title it. It really depends on how ur states DMV works.

sounds stolen to me. call the police and see if they can check national stolen records 3 years back? If not apply for new title at dmv. use paperwork from ebay transaction.

Run the vin, contact that owner. Send a certified letter to that person that requires signature. When it comes back to you. (assuming that that person does not live at that address..) then take it unopened to the DMV. they will set u up for a temporary bonded/salvage title that lasts 2 years & then turns into a real one.with ur name on it.

If it turns up stolen.then u r so screwed.

the above info is how that works in Texas.your state could be way different.

If it is one number/letter off, you can file a form for an amended title.
If it is way off bring the VIN from the frame to the DMV and find out who owns it.
