Hey Im hoping to do my CBT training in the next few weeks, l was wondering if l can use my own bike for the training, how would l go about doing this? Im planning to get joint insurance with my dad, is it possible for him to ride the bike to the training centre for me? Can someone explain to me how it works if possible? Thanks very much.

If you are using your own bike, then someone who can legally ride the bike, has to ride it to the training centre.

If you are purchasing a new bike, then the bike has to be delivered to the training centre prior to your test.

If then you obtain your CBT certificate, then you can ride it home.

l believe you can do it on your own bike as long as it has gears and not a rev and go type

l would contact the examining company if they allow you to. l personally done mine on the companys bike, it was much quicker too! If you use your own bike it may waste time if they want to inspect it. Its a long day of a course to so l would not waste any time!

1 ) THE BIKE MUST HAVE A M.O.T.
2 ) YOU YOURSELF MUST HAVE INSURANCE COVER
3 ) THE BIKE MUST BE ROAD TAXED

YES YOUR DAD CAN RIDE THE BIKE TO THE TRAINING CENTRE IF HE HIMSELF IS COVERED TO DO SO AND HAS A LICENCE TO ENABLE HIM TO DO SO ( FULL A BIKE LICENCE OR DEPENDING ON WHEN HE PASSED HIS CAR LICENCE AS HE MAY ALSO NEED A C.B.T.)

if the rider does not have the above licence & cover u need to get the bike transported there,

phone the training school ask if in the price u have paid or been quoted includes bike hire.
at the school were l INSTRUCT we charge £105.00 that includes the use of a school bike hire if u want to use ur own then we reduce the fee by £10.00
SO IS IT REALLY WORTH ALL THIS HASSLE? answer is NO
consider the fuel for the day , the cost of transporting ur bike , cost for ur dad to get insurance etc etc

also if u was to drop ur bike on the day a school bike is covered by company insurance.
also some schools off road training is done away from the centre u can not ride it from the centre to the off road pad u r not covered.

also remember this the LAW states u must have a minimum of at LEAST 2 hours on road training there is a lot of c.b.t schools only giving pupils a 30 min road ride THAT IS BREAKING THE LAW.
ALSO IT IS ONE INSTRUCTOR TO TWO PUPILS FOR THE ON ROAD SECTION AND YOU MUST BE IN RADIO CONTACT

You can & there r hoops u need to jump through to do it, but why? Use the bikes & gas that they provide which r usually 250's. They're small & easy to manuver. Plus if u crash u do not damage ur own bike.

And, yes, u CAN crash in training. l took my class last weekend & a guy high-sided in the quick stop test. He freaked out & locked up only the front brake. At 12 mph it is an instant stop & over the handlebars u will go. He failed but can retest next week.
